Today was the day, it was my first race and at Castle Combe with mixed conditions throughout the day. Qualifying was wet which I enjoyed a lot and was quite surprised to see that I was P3 as I came across the line for the last time in a bit of disbelief not expecting to be so high on the board in my first qualifying session.
When time for the first race came I was a bit nervous having never launched a car before and starting on the second row of the grid on a live broadcast knowing my parents were up at 4am back at home watching. As the lights went out I was sure I had an amazing start due to the reaction time only to realize the car bogged and I instantly lost at least 10 spots which meant I had to battle back to the top 10 luckily able to finish P9.
Due to the qualifying procedure taking our first and second fastest lap I was able to start P4 and knew what I needed to change to get a better start. As the lights went out I ended up slotting in behind the leaders unable to see anything due to the spray they threw up from the heavy rain. as the race went on I was holding onto P3 making my way cautiously through back markers and unknowingly set the fastest lap then suddenly lost sight of the car in front of me so I slowed down and lost my podium spot on the very last lap, yet I was still happy with a great result in my first Formula Ford race.
